We received over 131,000 prank calls in first quarter of 2025 - GNFS

The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) reported 131,862 prank calls from January to March 2025.

This number is lower than last year's total but still concerning.

Prank calls misuse emergency lines and hinder responses to real emergencies.

The GNFS stated that these calls waste time and resources. They can delay life-saving interventions and endanger lives and property.

The reduction from 192,545 prank calls in the same period last year is attributed to public education campaigns. Increased community engagement also played a role.

Acting Chief Fire Officer Daniella Mawusi Ntow Sapong praised the public for their cooperation. However, she urged Ghanaians to use emergency services responsibly.

The GNFS reminded everyone that prank calling emergency lines is illegal in Ghana. They encouraged the public to report actual fire incidents promptly.

For immediate assistance, call toll-free numbers 192 or 112, or hotlines 0302772446 and 0299340383.
