“When communities need us, we step in to improve their lives.” These words came from Nana Kwame Afful, Director of Agro Crown West Africa Company Limited. He spoke at the commissioning of a new mechanized borehole for the Ofosu community in the Nkwanta South Municipality of the Oti Region.
Mr. Afful addressed community members during the ceremony. He described the project as a response to critical water challenges faced by residents. “Even when it rains, you still need water,” he said. Many people were forced to drink from unsafe sources shared with cattle. This borehole is not just a facility; it is a lifeline.
The Director emphasized that access to clean water is a fundamental human right. It is also essential for public health. “With this water, their health will improve,” he stated. “Their well-being will improve as well.”
AgroCrown West Africa focuses on rural development and addresses pressing needs in underserved communities. Mr. Afful noted that many interventions come from ideas brought forward by young people and team members in those regions.
“Usually our boys bring the idea, and then we support,” he explained. “We don’t wait — when we see a need, we invest appropriately.” He recalled a similar initiative in 2023 when they built a school block for Lumbui in the Tolon District.
While celebrating clean water access, Mr. Afful stressed the community's role in maintaining the facility. “Maintenance is key,” he warned. If there’s leakage or pump failure, they must fix it promptly to enjoy this gift fully.
He also urged the government to address similar water challenges nationwide. “We are doing our part, but the government can look at other areas where these issues persist,” he said.
For the people of Ofosu, this borehole symbolizes hope and dignity. It offers a future free from health hazards linked to unsafe water. Their heartfelt appreciation filled the gathering as they praised Agro Crown West Africa for bringing lasting change to their community.
