Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, former vice president and NPP presidential candidate, spoke about power issues in Ghana. He warned that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and dumsor go hand in hand.
He claimed that when the NDC takes a step, dumsor follows closely behind. Dr. Bawumia noted that during the NPP's eight years in power, they managed electricity well. However, he said the NDC is struggling with power generation after just four months.
During the NPP’s “Thank You Tour,” Dr. Bawumia stated, “Do you have a 24-hour economy with dumsor? We warned Ghanaians that the NDC and dumsor walk together.” He emphasized that this connection was clear to everyone now.
Meanwhile, John Jinapor, Minister for Energy and Green Transition, disagreed about needing a one-day dumsor timetable. He explained that Ghana generates enough power to meet current demand but lacks excess capacity.
Jinapor said disruptions occur when one plant goes offline. He urged Ghanaians to be patient as they work on these challenges for uninterrupted power supply.
He added, “We have enough generation just to meet demand.” Jinapor also mentioned that it is difficult to publish a load-shedding timetable if they can restore plants quickly.
He acknowledged the inherited challenges from the previous administration would take time to resolve. Jinapor expressed optimism about making progress in the coming weeks for better power supply.
In summary, Dr. Bawumia criticized the NDC's handling of electricity issues while Jinapor assured Ghanaians of ongoing improvements in power generation.
