The Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) has addressed fare reductions. They urge drivers to implement a 15% fare cut. However, full compliance relies on law enforcement agencies.
Abbas Ibrahim Moro, GPRTU Public Relations Officer, spoke on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem. He acknowledged that some drivers are not following the directive. Still, most drivers are complying with the reduction effective from May 24, 2025.
Moro stated, “We have informed our members about the reduction.” He noted that a few unregistered union members are not complying. He emphasized that law enforcement must ensure full adherence.
He warned that non-compliant drivers will face sanctions. He encouraged the public to report any violations.
Moro added, “Law enforcement must set an example for these drivers.” He stressed that everyone should follow the laws in place.
The fare reduction aims to ease burdens after recent fuel price cuts. It follows consultations between transport unions and stakeholders.
However, commercial transport operators disagree on implementation due to high maintenance costs. Despite this division, some stations enforce strict measures for compliance.
Moro mentioned he has monitored several stations for adherence. As branch chairman at Abeka-Lapaz main station, he said non-compliant drivers cannot pick passengers there.
