We want a Pope who's not interested in what the world wants - Catholic Priest

Reverend Father Emmanuel Salifu is the Parish Priest of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Accra. He has urged the College of Cardinals to choose a pope focused on Jesus Christ's teachings. He believes the new leader should not be influenced by worldly interests.

Father Salifu spoke on JoyNews’ AM Show on May 7. He offered a prayer for the conclave in Rome, where cardinals are electing a new pope after Pope Francis' death.

"We want a Pope who seeks Jesus' heart," he said. "We need a disciple of Jesus, not someone swayed by worldly desires." He emphasized that the Church is led by Christ, not the world.

He cautioned against engaging in worldly politics during this process. His comments come at an important time for Catholics worldwide as they face this transition.

The conclave began on May 7 in the Vatican’s Sistine Chapel. This centuries-old tradition keeps cardinal-electors isolated until they agree on a new pope.

Father Salifu’s remarks reflect many Catholics' desire for strong leadership. They seek someone who upholds traditional values and leads with humility and compassion.

The Ghanaian Catholic community joins millions globally in prayer and reflection. They await the white smoke that will signal the election of a new pope.
