We will not allow you to beat our women on the street – Chairman COKA tells Ksi Mayor

Odeneho Kwaku Appiah, known as COKA, is a former NPP Chairman for Afigya Kwabre South. He has criticized the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) boss. COKA claims the Mayor endorsed violence against traders during a city clean-up.

On April 16, COKA posted on social media about this issue. He supports keeping Kumasi clean but opposes “instant justice” against street traders.

His comments follow the Mayor's defense of city taskforce members. These members are accused of assaulting traders in unauthorized areas. The Mayor's remarks have angered residents and political figures.

COKA acknowledged the need for order in the city. However, he warned the Mayor against using violence. He stated that beating traders is not a solution.

COKA compared such actions to those of a coup leader. He emphasized that the Mayor lacks legal authority to authorize violence against traders.

He cautioned that this approach could lead to abuse and remind Ghanaians of past political violence.

COKA referenced historical incidents of political brutality, urging caution from the Mayor’s party. He reminded everyone that Ghana is a democratic society with laws governing arrests and prosecutions.

He urged the Mayor to use lawful methods to address street trading issues in Kumasi. Violence should not be part of any solution, he stressed.

COKA concluded by stating they will not allow lawlessness in Kumasi. He warned against taking the law into one’s own hands and harming women on the streets.
