We will not sack the Supreme Court Judges – Afenyo-Markin

Minority leader Alexander Afenyo Markin has distanced the New Patriotic Party (NPP) from threats made by Dennis Miracles. Miracles claimed that the NPP would remove Supreme Court judges if they come to power.

Dennis Miracles Aboagye, Director of Communications for the Dr. Bawumia 2024 campaign, made this statement about newly nominated judges. He said the future NPP government would dismiss all seven newly nominated Supreme Court judges.

In response, Afenyo Markin stated that they will not sack Supreme Court judges when in power. He also accused President John Dramani Mahama of plotting a third-term agenda in disguise.

Afenyo Markin noted that Mahama's nomination of seven judges is a major attempt at this agenda. He expressed concerns over attempts to remove the Chief Justice as part of these plots.

At a press conference on May 1, he emphasized the need for peaceful demonstrations. He stated that this is not just a parliamentary fight but one for every citizen who values the law.

He urged caution in decision-making, warning that current actions could shape future governments. The nominations by President Mahama are subject to approval by Parliament under Article 144 (2) of the 1992 Constitution.
