The Ashanti Mampong Traditional Council, led by Daasebre Osei Bonsu II, has demanded an urgent retraction of anti-Ashanti comments made by some NDC youth opposing Esther Dwomoh’s rumored nomination as Mampong MCE.
The Mamponghene, addressing the party's constituency leadership on April 13, condemned the protests and warned that failure to withdraw the divisive statements within 24 hours would prompt a strong traditional response.
The youth had insisted “no Ashanti will be MCE of Mampong,” sparking outrage after vandalizing party property.
Mamponghene defended Ashanti’s legacy of inclusion, noting the region uniquely allows non-Akans to enstool their own chiefs.
He urged the NDC to discipline the offenders and restore calm. Meanwhile, local NDC leaders have apologized for the violence and called for peace as President Mahama’s decision is awaited.
