Black Satellites head coach Desmond Ofei knew it would be tough to get Jerry Afriyie for the U-20 Africa Cup of Nations.
Afriyie left the team’s camp on Wednesday morning. He returned to CD Lugo after an agreement for two games.
He assisted in the winning goal against Senegal. This victory placed Ghana second in Group C, behind DR Congo.
Before the final group game against Central African Republic, Ofei expressed concern about losing Afriyie. However, he remains hopeful they can bring him back when needed.
“Jerry [Afriyie] is an incredible talent,” Ofei told GFA Media Team. “Everyone knows his impact on and off the pitch.”
“He’s a true leader. We anticipated difficulties in securing Jerry at the tournament's start. Fortunately, we got him for two games.”
“Everyone understood he would play only two games. We will try to bring him back at the right time.”
“We hope he won’t be gone long. In his absence, we will fight and support each other.”
Ghana's match against CAR is scheduled for 3 PM on Thursday. They aim to qualify for the quarterfinals.
