We won’t play smoke and mirrors with Bawku crisis – Mahama

President John Dramani Mahama has condemned recent violence in Bawku. He called for calm and reaffirmed his government's commitment to peace.

During the Graduation Parade of the Ghana Military Academy on April 11, 2025, he addressed security challenges. The President noted that the Ghana Armed Forces face complex issues, especially in conflict zones like Bawku.

He highlighted that the Armed Forces work to maintain peace and security. Bawku is a major flashpoint for these efforts. Just two days ago, violence erupted in the market, resulting in loss of life and property damage.

President Mahama emphasized that no one benefits from this conflict. He assured the nation of ongoing peace efforts. The Otumfuo-led mediation process has been reactivated with all stakeholders involved.

“We have triggered the Otumfuo mediation process,” he said. This aims to create a roadmap toward peace. The Asantehene will resume discussions next week after returning from abroad.

While confident in mediation efforts, the President stressed zero tolerance for crime. “We will take all allegations seriously,” he stated. Security services will investigate criminals regardless of their identity.

He warned against wasting resources on distractions: “We do not have time for smoke and mirrors.”
