The Weija Municipal Assembly is taking steps to protect lives and property. This is in anticipation of the Weija Dam's spillage.
In an interview with Citi News, Municipal Director Bernard Mats Yingura shared details. A stakeholder meeting is scheduled for Wednesday. This meeting will outline necessary plans and preparations.
Yingura noted that the spillage should be controlled. However, residents near the dam must stay vigilant to avoid damage. "This is a planned spillage," he said. "It won't take Ghana Water Limited by surprise."
He advised residents and those near the dam to be cautious. "People should stay away from areas where water could affect them," he warned. This includes those working along the riverbanks.
Yingura mentioned that community engagement will follow the stakeholder meeting. This will ensure everyone is informed about potential risks. He emphasized that farmers and canoeists need to know when tides are coming.
"The timetable for opening the dam should be announced quickly," he stated. "Vans should inform people about the date."
