Weija-Gbawe MP re-elected President of Ghana Weightlifting Federation

Jerry Ahmed Shaib has been re-elected as President of the Ghana Weightlifting Federation (GWF). He received 100% of the valid votes cast. His opponent, Michael Nii Yarboi Annan, was defeated. The election took place virtually on May 9, 2025. This result shows the strong trust delegates have in Mr. Shaib's leadership.

Mr. Kenneth Odeng Adade was elected Secretary-General. He won against Ms. Peggy Crabbe. Madam Elizabeth Owusu Agyapong is now the Treasurer after a vote of confidence from delegates.

New Board Members include Dr. Christopher Akwesi Adomako, Prof. Jonathan Quartey, and Mr. Benjamin Addy. They will serve on the Federation’s governing body.

Dr. Ibrahim Abdul monitored the elections as President of the Nigeria Weightlifting Federation. He praised GWF for a transparent electoral process and encouraged unity among leaders.

Dr. Kyle Calhoum Pierce from the International Weightlifting Federation expressed excitement over the election results. He promised support to develop weightlifting in schools.

Mr. Ernest Danso, representing the Ghana Olympic Committee, commended GWF's efforts and urged unity among stakeholders.

In his acceptance speech, Jerry Ahmed Shaib thanked the Elections Committee for their hard work. He congratulated all newly elected members and committed to advancing weightlifting in Ghana.

He invited all stakeholders to unite as Ghana prepares for the 2025 African Youth and Junior Weightlifting Championships in August.
