Weija-Gbawe MP threatens legal action against ECG over persistent 'dumsor' in his constituency

Member of Parliament for Weija-Gbawe, Jerry Ahmed Shaib, is raising concerns. He reports unannounced power outages lasting several days. These outages have left homes, clinics, and small businesses in darkness. Families and patients are stranded in his constituency.

On April 17, 2025, the MP issued a strong statement. He urged the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), GRIDCo, and the Ministry of Energy to act quickly. He warned that constituents may seek legal action if the crisis continues.

Jerry Ahmed Shaib noted that Weija-Gbawe suffers greatly from the national "dumsor" crisis. He stated that local communities face more outages than anywhere else in Ghana. Some neighborhoods have experienced unplanned outages lasting over four days.

The MP highlighted severe disruptions to essential services. Life-saving treatments at clinics have been interrupted. Pupils are missing important school hours as well. He expressed disappointment over the lack of communication from ECG and GRIDCo.

Shaib called on key power players to find lasting solutions. This includes better grid maintenance schedules and clearer outage communications. He wants these measures to help manage the situation effectively.

He also mentioned that residents might seek judicial intervention if blackouts continue. “If decisive steps are not taken promptly,” he said, “we will explore legal channels.” The people of Weija-Gbawe deserve reliable service.

With economic activity stalling and public confidence declining, his statement is significant. It shows that legislative pressure alone may not be enough. The courts could soon be involved to uphold citizens' rights to uninterrupted power supply.
