The Member of Parliament for Weija-Gbawe, Jerry Ahmed Shaib, has raised concerns about flooding. This issue affects both his constituency and the Greater Accra Region.
In Parliament, he spoke about the severe impact of flooding on residents. He blamed poor drainage systems for this ongoing problem.
Shaib noted that flooding has become an annual crisis in the region. He stressed that current measures are not enough to solve the issue.
He warned that persistent flooding endangers public safety and economic stability. Therefore, he urged lawmakers to take immediate action to address it.
Comfort Doyoo Ghansah, MP for Ada Constituency, supported Shaib's concerns. She expressed frustration over the lack of sustained efforts to prevent flooding.
Ghansah mentioned that solutions could have been implemented earlier with proper attention. She compared Ghana’s situation to the Netherlands, which effectively manages its water bodies.
Both MPs called for urgent efforts to tackle the flooding crisis. They highlighted the need for better drainage infrastructure and urban planning.
They hope Parliament will prioritize finding sustainable solutions to protect communities from flooding.
