The Western Central Regional Police Command has arrested eleven people. This includes four Chinese nationals and seven Ghanaians. They were involved in illegal mining along the Bonsa River and near Wassa Agona.
The operation took place on March 31, 2025, at noon. It was based on intelligence aimed at stopping illegal mining in the area.
At the Bonsa River site, five suspects were arrested. They are: Wei Qinwei, 43; Yao Yongji, 40; Nsoh Oto (alias Agologo), 43; Kwadwo George (alias Sergio), 20; and Emmanuel Van (alias Atta/AT), 20.
At the Wassa Agona site, six more suspects were taken into custody. They are: Nuang Shichuan, 46; Huang Xinbao, 52; Douglas Ayambilla, 19; Elvis Aborta, 21; Michael Tettey Komlorm, 34; and Ibrahim Dauda, 23.
All suspects have confessed to illegal mining activities. They are currently in police custody for ongoing investigations.
Four excavators used in these operations remain unrecovered. The police are working to locate them as evidence.
The police stated that the suspects will be taken to court once investigations are complete. All necessary evidence will be processed before this happens.
