Western NGOs Slammed for ‘Rainbow Imperialism’ Amid Ghana’s LGBTQ Debate

The Human Rights Reporters Ghana (HRRG) is alarmed by a recent attack on Kofi in Atonsu, Kumasi. This incident occurred between April 29 and May 1, 2025. It highlights the violence faced by the LGBTQ+ community in Ghana. Reports indicate that Kofi was lured into a room and brutally assaulted while being recorded.

Ghanaians should be outraged by this horrific attack. No one deserves such cruelty, regardless of their identity. As society condemns this act, we must also consider the background issues. Why do Western organizations respond to these incidents? They often focus on promoting LGBTQ+ ideology instead of addressing the violence directly.

Groups like Human Rights Watch and OutRight International are eager to use this incident for their agenda. Their goal seems clear: to push a worldview that contradicts our values and culture. This isn't the first time we've seen this behavior.

In 2021, when Parliament introduced the Promotion of Proper Human Sexual Rights Bill, these groups accused Ghana of “hate” and “intolerance.” They fail to understand that most Ghanaians reject LGBTQ+ ideology based on our beliefs. A 2023 Afrobarometer survey shows that 95% of Ghanaians oppose same-sex marriages.

Tragedies are often used as leverage for social change. A young man's suffering becomes a talking point for campaigns aimed at changing Ghana's laws rather than helping him directly.

These organizations aren't just targeting laws; they are influencing our children too. Recently, LGBTQ+ booklets were found in schools, some linked to OutRight International. These materials promote queer identities under the guise of “inclusivity” and “education.” Parents have rightfully expressed outrage over this intrusion into their children's education.

This situation can be described as cultural colonization. Instead of soldiers, we face rainbow posters and pamphlets promoting foreign ideologies. The West lectures us about tolerance while grappling with its own moral contradictions.

In Western countries, LGBTQ+ advocacy has shifted from equality to an ideology that punishes dissenting voices. Individuals expressing conservative beliefs risk losing jobs or facing public shaming. Families are divided over identity politics, with children taught they can choose their gender from a young age.

We must resist following this path in Ghana.

This issue goes beyond culture or education; there is financial motivation involved too. Western governments and NGOs are linking foreign aid to LGBTQ+ rights initiatives.
