The Western North Regional Police Command, led by DCOP Dr. Francis Kwame Tsidi, has started a special operation. This operation targets unlicensed and reckless tricycle riders. It aims to improve road safety in the region.
The crackdown began on May 28, 2025. It addresses the rising number of road crashes caused by irresponsible motorcycle and tricycle use. The police arrested several individuals during this operation.
These arrests were for operating unregistered tricycles and riding without valid licenses. Some offenders engaged in dangerous behavior on public roads. After their arrest, they appeared before the District Magistrate Court in Sefwi Wiawso.
His Worship Eric Baah Boateng presided over the court proceedings. The accused pleaded guilty to the charges against them. They received sentences of seven days in prison with hard labor.
Additionally, the court imposed various fines on the culprits. Those unable to pay would face an alternative 90-day prison term with hard labor.
The operation took place within the Sefwi Wiawso Municipality. It aims to deter other reckless riders and reduce road accidents in the area.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Michael Nkekesi spoke about the campaign's importance. He assured the public that enforcement efforts will continue for road safety. He urged all tricycle and motorcycle riders to follow road safety regulations to avoid prosecution.
