The Western Nzema Traditional Council has rejected claims about land ownership. They state that the lands for Ghana’s Petroleum Hub project are Stool lands. These lands are held in trust for the people, not owned by families.
During a visit from Dr. Toni Aubynn, CEO of the Petroleum Hub Development Corporation (PHDC), the Council clarified this issue. Some public members have claimed these lands belong to individual families, which is incorrect.
Nana Avo Nwia spoke on behalf of Awulae Annor Adjaye III, President of the Council. He called the opposition's claims misleading and harmful to national development.
He emphasized that these lands are under Stool authority and meant for all Nzema people. Any contrary assertion is factually wrong and creates confusion.
This clarification comes as interest in the Petroleum Hub project grows. The project aims to transform Ghana’s energy sector and attract significant investment. It is also expected to create thousands of jobs, especially in the Western Region.
Nana Avo Nwia expressed support for the project and confidence in Dr. Aubynn's leadership. He urged stakeholders to unite behind it and avoid spreading misinformation that could hinder progress.
Dr. Toni Aubynn welcomed the Council’s endorsement during his remarks. He reiterated PHDC’s commitment to engaging stakeholders and ensuring local participation.
He assured Jomoro's chiefs and residents that funding for compensation and skills development is a priority. This will help residents benefit directly from the project.
“Our visit reaffirms our commitment to building trust with Nzema people,” Dr. Aubynn stated. The Petroleum Hub will position Ghana as a strategic energy hub in Africa, bringing long-term benefits to communities like Jomoro.
The Petroleum Hub project supports President John Dramani Mahama’s industrialization agenda. It will include refineries, petrochemical plants, and necessary infrastructure.
