The Western Regional Minister, Joseph Nelson, supports Ghana's Petroleum Hub development. This hub is located in Jomoro, within the Western Nzema area.
Nelson's support came during a visit from Dr. Toni Aubynn. He is the Chief Executive Officer of the Petroleum Hub Development Corporation (PHDC). Dr. Aubynn was joined by Kobby Onasis Rosely, the Deputy CEO for Operations and Technical, along with other PHDC executives.
The purpose of their visit was to introduce PHDC leadership to the Minister. They also aimed to reaffirm the government's commitment to developing the Petroleum Hub project.
Dr. Aubynn discussed how the hub could transform energy access in Ghana and West Africa. He emphasized its potential for improving reliability and affordability of energy.
Once operational, the hub could create around 700,000 jobs. This would significantly boost employment and promote regional economic integration.
Dr. Aubynn stated that it would employ more people than any single entity in Ghana. At full capacity, he believes Jomoro could become "the Rotterdam of Ghana." This would greatly contribute to Ghana’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
To prepare for this project, Dr. Aubynn announced a training program for youth. This initiative aims to equip them with essential skills for job opportunities at the hub.
He noted that this program would also improve their overall employability levels.
Minister Joseph Nelson expressed his excitement about the project. He congratulated Dr. Aubynn on his appointment and recognized his extensive experience in leadership roles.
Nelson assured full support from the Western Regional Coordinating Council. He described this project as a game-changer for industrialization and economic transformation.
Earlier, Dr. Aubynn visited the Western Regional House of Chiefs in Sekondi. Traditional leaders there showed strong support for developing the hub but called for fair compensation for affected communities.
With government backing and traditional leadership support, progress continues on the Petroleum Hub Project. It is set to become a key part of Ghana’s energy sector and drive economic growth.
