The Western Regional Minister, Joseph Nelson, has called a meeting with the new management of the Bogoso Prestea Mine. This mine is operated by Heat GoldFields. The meeting was prompted by concerns about poor operational standards since the company's takeover.
The Minister visited the mine recently after receiving complaints from workers. Workers reported issues like tampering with mining equipment and delays in salary payments. They also mentioned that the company failed to meet its contractual obligations.
“You heard the lamentations of the workers,” said the Minister. “They haven’t been paid for months.” He noted that the mine is deteriorating quickly. “You saw the equipment; everything is rusting,” he added.
The Minister emphasized that urgent action is needed. He expressed concern that this new company is not performing well at all. His intervention may lead to regulatory or administrative actions if conditions do not improve soon.
