The statue, which faced criticism over the former President’s perceived lack of impact on the region
Nana Akwasi Agyeman IV, Paramount Chief of Lower Dixcove, has denied allegations by former Western Regional Minister Kwabena Okyere Darko Mensah that chiefs in the Western Region financed the controversial Akufo-Addo statue placed at Effia-Nkwanta Hospital in Sekondi.
Speaking to a Takoradi radio station, Nana Agyeman revealed he was unaware of the statue’s existence until ambushed to participate in its unveiling during Akufo-Addo’s thank-you tour in November 2024.
He emphasized that no chief contributed financially or sanctioned the statue, adding that no discussions were held by the Regional House of Chiefs.
The statue, which faced criticism over the former President’s perceived lack of impact on the region, was destroyed by unknown individuals on January 13, 2025, following public outrage.
