What NDC must learn from its 2024 Election victory

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) secured victory in the 2024 elections, but winning power is only the beginning.

A key lesson from this triumph is that elections are not won by party loyalists alone but by appealing to floating and swing voters who ultimately determine the outcome.

The party must acknowledge that its success hinged not just on a strong base but also on voter dissatisfaction with the previous administration.

One of the major reasons the New Patriotic Party (NPP) failed to retain power was voter apathy. Economic hardship, internal conflicts, and broken promises discouraged many NPP supporters from voting, significantly lowering turnout in key strongholds.

The NDC capitalized on this, but it must not assume that the same factors will work in its favor in future elections. Ensuring continuous engagement with all voter demographics, not just party faithful, is critical for long-term success.

Swing voters demand more than campaign promises—they expect policies that directly impact their livelihoods.

If the NDC fails to govern inclusively and address national concerns beyond party lines, disillusionment could set in, weakening its electoral chances in subsequent elections.

The party must focus on governance that speaks to the aspirations of all Ghanaians, ensuring trust and accountability throughout its tenure.

To solidify its hold on power, the NDC must learn from both its victory and the mistakes of its predecessor.

Maintaining an open dialogue with the electorate, prioritizing national development, and avoiding political complacency will be key to securing public confidence beyond just one electoral cycle.
