Samuel Atta Akyea, the lawyer for Kwabena Adu Boahene, criticized his client's prosecution. He called it a travesty of justice.
Akyea has stopped communicating with Attorney General Dr. Dominic Ayine. He fears their discussions might be recorded and misrepresented.
This comes after an Accra High Court remanded Adu Boahene in EOCO custody for seven days. This allows the Attorney General's office to finish witness statements.
The lawyer believes his client deserves a fair trial without manipulation. "That is a travesty of justice," he told reporters outside the court.
The case is now adjourned until May 13 for further directions.
Mr. Atta Akyea accused the prosecution of using delay tactics and acting in bad faith. He expressed concern that any future communication could be leaked or distorted.
"I don't want to eat a meal which is not cooked," he said. He suggested waiting instead of rushing to court without evidence.
Prosecutors argued they needed more time to prepare their case before Adu Boahene was taken into custody by EOCO officials.
Background
Attorney-General Dominic Ayine has charged Kwabena Adu Boahene and his wife Angela Adjei Boateng with corruption offences worth millions of cedis.
They face 11 charges, including stealing, money laundering, and defrauding by false pretenses, along with two others: Mildred Donkor and Advantage Solutions Limited.
Adu-Boahene oversaw national security contracts, including one with ISC Holdings Limited for cyber defense software costing $7 million.
He allegedly transferred about GHS 49 million (around $7 million) from NSB funds into personal accounts, falsely claiming these were payments for cyber defense systems.
