Kwesi Pratt Jnr, a veteran journalist and Managing Editor of Insight Newspaper, questioned Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia's right to lecture Ghanaians about the cedi.
Pratt pointed out that under Bawumia, the cedi's value dropped from 3.40 to 16 cedis per dollar. He believes Ghanaians are tired of Bawumia's lectures and wants him to stop.
Speaking on Good Morning Ghana, Pratt asked if it was really Bawumia speaking. He noted that during Bawumia's time in power, the cedi fell to 17 cedis per dollar. Pratt questioned what right he has to lecture others on managing the cedi.
He expressed disbelief at Bawumia giving lectures after his government's performance. Pratt criticized politicians for thinking Ghanaians are naive and said they are fed up with these lectures.
Bawumia recently claimed that the US dollar is declining globally. He stated that the NDC deserves no credit for recent gains in the cedi.
During an event in London with the Young Executive Forum (YEF), Bawumia explained that the NDC had not implemented any policies affecting currency stability yet. He emphasized that their budget was only passed in March.
Bawumia also discussed gold's impact on Ghana’s economy. He mentioned Ghana is Africa’s largest gold producer and highlighted its importance for currency confidence.
He compared Ghana’s gold reserves with those of other countries like the US and UK. According to him, gold can be obtained more easily than other exports like cocoa or timber.
