When I cough, the whole NDC catches a cold – Godfred Dame to Thaddeus Sory

Former Attorney-General Godfred Dame has criticized legal practitioner Thaddeus Sory. He claims Sory's recent attacks are politically motivated. Dame believes these attacks threaten Ghana’s judicial independence.

Dame dismissed Sory’s criticism as part of a National Democratic Congress (NDC) effort to damage his reputation. He stated, “The record of my success in high-profile cases is there for all to verify.” This success occurred between 2003 and 2007 and again from 2009 to 2017.

He emphasized the importance of protecting Ghana’s judiciary from recent threats. Dame accused the NDC of trying to create a false narrative about him.

While acknowledging Sory's past work for New Patriotic Party (NPP) clients, he raised ethical concerns about current events. He noted that Mr. Tsikata represented President Mahama in the last election petition in 2020.

Dame pointed out that Sory represents both the Speaker of Parliament and someone challenging judgments by the Chief Justice. He questioned if Sory finds it strange that these lawyers want to remove the Chief Justice.

In response to Sory's claim about his right to represent clients, Dame asked if he doesn’t owe the same duty.

Dame declared this would be his final word on the matter. He expressed hope that this would end their exchanges but anticipated further provocations from Sory.

He concluded with a remark about his influence: “When Godfred Dame coughs, the whole NDC catches a cold.”
