The legal team for former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta has criticized Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng. They accuse him of overstepping his authority and making unqualified medical judgments.
In an interview with JoyFM, lead counsel Davies questioned Agyebeng's credibility. This came after Agyebeng dismissed medical documents that excused Ofori-Atta from appearing before investigators.
Davies stated, “I don’t know where he became a medical practitioner.” He added, “He should stick to his mandate. This theatrics is unnecessary.”
The legal team claims they properly communicated their client’s medical condition. “We sent a report from the doctors,” Davies explained. The report indicated that Ofori-Atta was unavailable for an interview.
Davies asked if Agyebeng had received the report before commenting on it. He questioned whether it was within Agyebeng's authority to make such comments.
Tensions rose after Agyebeng hinted at a possible trial in absentia if Ofori-Atta remains unavailable. Davies challenged the legality and intent behind this potential move.
“He says he’s going to try him in absentia,” Davies noted. “Has he exhausted all the legal avenues? We are all lawyers.”
Davies also raised concerns about ethical issues regarding private health information disclosure. He questioned the implications of Agyebeng stating that Ofori-Atta has cancer.
“When did he become a doctor?” Davies asked, criticizing Agyebeng's comments on health matters.
