Cardinal Peter Kodwo Appiah Turkson, born in 1948 in Ghana, is a prominent Catholic Church leader and current Chancellor of the Pontifical Academies of Sciences and Social Sciences. A former Archbishop of Cape Coast, he was made cardinal by Pope John Paul II in 2003. He served as the inaugural prefect of the Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development (2017–2022) and president of the Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace. An advocate for economic justice and peace, he has addressed global crises and promoted ethical reforms. Fluent in several languages, Turkson has also contributed to peace missions in Africa and sparked debates with his views on sexuality, HIV/AIDS, and global finance. Widely regarded as papabile, he remains a significant voice in Catholic leadership and social discourse.
