Whoever leads NDC with Mahama's record will beat any NPP candidate - Quashie

Benjamin Kofi Quashie chairs the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Council of Elders in South Africa. He believes that any NDC leader, following President Mahama's record, can defeat a New Patriotic Party (NPP) candidate in the next election.

Quashie thinks President Mahama is successfully resetting the nation. He praised Vice President Prof. Jane Nana Opoku Agyemang for her groundbreaking achievements. It would not be surprising if she leads the NDC after Mahama.

On Joy News' UpFront on April 16, Mr. Quashie noted her historic roles as the first female Vice Chancellor and Vice President of Ghana. He suggested that fortune might favor her leadership of the NDC.

However, he emphasized it is still early in Mahama's government. "He has not completed forming his government," he said. The party should focus on supporting Mahama instead of discussing future leadership.

Mr. Quashie mentioned that discussions about post-Mahama leadership should involve others outside the current government members. Potential candidates include Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu and Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson.

Other names mentioned are Foreign Minister Samuel Okudjeto Ablakwa and current NDC Chair John Asiedu Nketia. When asked about their chances against NPP's Dr. Bawumia, Quashie expressed confidence.

He stated that any of these candidates could defeat Dr. Bawumia in an election. "The NDC would beat them hands down," he asserted.

Quashie also highlighted that the NDC is performing well and enjoys strong approval ratings from Ghanaians who believe the country is moving in a positive direction.
