Apostle Dr. Chibuzor Gift Chinyere leads Omega Power Ministry (OPM). He recently announced the purchase of a church building in Marine Base, Port Harcourt. This building was previously used by the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG).
Instead of making it another OPM branch, he will turn it into a tuition-free school. This school will serve underprivileged children in the area.
The clergyman shared this news on Facebook on May 16, 2025. He stated that he used tithes and offerings to buy the building.
His pastoral team suggested using the space for an OPM branch. However, Apostle Chibuzor saw a greater need during his visit to Marine Base.
He noted that many poor children were not attending school. “I saw poor children running up and down without going to school,” he said.
For him, expanding church walls is not enough. It’s about restoring hope in a forgotten community.
He emphasized that lack of education causes poverty and crime. “One of the weapons early missionaries used was free schools,” he explained.
Apostle Chibuzor believes free education will attract people to God more than another worship center would.
He wants to show God's love through providing free schooling for sinners. “When sinners see this love, they will want to know God more,” he said.
The Port Harcourt-based leader has established free schools and hospitals before. He believes churches should focus on transforming communities rather than just traditional structures.
Since early this year, he decided that any nearby OPM branches would convert one into a tuition-free school or hospital. Members can then attend the nearest OPM church.
He questioned why churches are opened close together without social impact. “What is the essence of opening branches very close together?” he asked.
Many widows struggle with school fees for their children in these communities.
