Former Minister of Education, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, felt no disappointment when he was not chosen as Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s running mate for the 2024 elections.
He shared his thoughts on Wontumi TV’s Morning Show with Oheneba Nana Asiedu. Dr. Adutwum recalled how his teenage son helped him find clarity before the announcement.
“My 16-year-old son said, ‘If they don’t select you, it will be their loss,’” he shared. “Those words meant a lot to me. When I wasn’t selected, I remembered what he said and felt at peace.”
His calm reaction comes amid speculation that he was a top candidate for the position. Many party insiders and observers viewed Dr. Adutwum as a strong choice due to his achievements in Ghana’s education sector.
A public opinion survey showed he was the most preferred running mate for Dr. Bawumia, with 53.14% support. This was compared to Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, who ultimately received the nomination.
Despite this, Dr. Adutwum expressed no bitterness about the outcome. “I would have been happy to serve my country in that capacity,” he stated. “But this is not a moment for regret. I continue to support the party and believe in its vision for Ghana.”
