The Minority caucus in Parliament initially opposed the approval of Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah as Minister for Lands and Natural Resources due to remarks he made about former President Akufo-Addo.
The opposition, led by Effutu MP Alexander Afenyo-Markin, emerged during the ministerial approval debate on January 29.
Armah-Kofi Buah’s comments, made after Akufo-Addo’s final State of the Nation Address, were seen as harsh.
During his vetting, he declined to retract them. However, facing renewed pressure in Parliament, he later apologized, leading the Minority to withdraw their objections.
Afenyo-Markin accepted the apology, stressing the need for respectful language in national discussions.
With consensus reached, Buah’s nomination was approved, ending the standoff over his controversial remarks.
