A heated debate took place on JoyNews' Newsfile programme. This followed allegations made by Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, MP for Assin South.
Rev. Fordjour claimed that two aircraft were linked to drug trafficking and money laundering. His claims have caused outrage and demands for accountability.
Sammy Gyamfi, the National Communications Officer of the NDC, responded strongly. He warned Rev. Fordjour to prepare for consequences if he cannot provide evidence.
“In other jurisdictions, he would have been blacklisted,” Gyamfi stated during the debate. He emphasized that Fordjour could not hide behind parliamentary privileges from National Security.
“If he doesn’t honor the invitation from National Security, he is mistaken,” Gyamfi cautioned. “He will be arrested if he does not substantiate his claims.”
Background:
Rev. John Ntim Fordjour alleged that two aircraft landed at Kotoka International Airport in March 2025. He suggested these planes might be linked to drug trafficking and money laundering.
Fordjour claimed intelligence indicated they could carry illicit substances like cocaine and large amounts of U.S. currency.
In response to these allegations, President John Mahama ordered an investigation. He instructed relevant agencies to work with Fordjour on a thorough examination.
Some government officials dismissed Fordjour’s statements as false. Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Minister of State in charge of Government Communications, accused him of spreading unverified information.
Despite this, Fordjour defended his claims as legitimate concerns. He urged National Security to clarify the matter and called for an official review of the aircraft's contents.
