The Second Deputy Minority Whip, Jerry Ahmed Shaib, has criticized Attorney General Dr. Dominic Ayine. He condemned Ayine for revealing details about an ongoing investigation. This investigation involves Kwabena Adu-Boahene, the former Director-General of the National Signals Bureau (NSB).
In an interview on JoyNews' The Pulse, Mr. Ahmed Shaib expressed his concerns. He said the Attorney General's actions deviated from standard legal procedures. He described it as an unnecessary "public crucifixion" of the accused.
Investigations have uncovered a network of properties and suspicious financial transactions linked to Adu-Boahene. The Attorney General claims that Adu-Boahene embezzled millions meant for a cyber defense project. Allegedly, he diverted these funds into real estate investments in Accra and abroad.
It is also claimed that he used a private company operated by him and his wife to siphon government funds. This reportedly helped him amass significant personal wealth.
However, Mr. Ahmed Shaib insists that the Attorney General’s public statements were inappropriate and irregular. He emphasized that individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
He stated that the Attorney General is neither the investigator nor the judge in this case. “This is highly unprofessional and a serious deviation from due process,” he said.
Mr. Ahmed Shaib argued that legal proceedings should occur in court, not publicly. “If you have a prima facie case, prosecute it in court,” he added.
He acknowledged that transparency in investigations is important but cautioned against declaring guilt prematurely. He urged the Attorney General to respect legal protocols and allow justice to be served fairly and professionally.
