Within three months, Cape Coast will have a shoe and garment factory – MCE vows

The newly confirmed Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE) for Cape Coast, Mr. George Justice Arthur, has big plans. He aims to work with the Member of Parliament (MP) for Cape Coast South, Mr. George Kwaku Ricketts-Hagan. Together, they want to establish a modern shoe and garment factory in the area.

This initiative aims to create jobs for the youth. Mr. Arthur sees unemployment as a threat to security and stability in Cape Coast. He stated that the factory should be built within three months using communal labor.

In an interview with MyNewsGh.com reporter Hajia Asana Gordon, Mr. Arthur noted that Cape Coast lacks significant manufacturing presence. Currently, there is not even one factory in the city. He stressed the need to change this situation.

Mr. Arthur also plans to reintroduce the ‘Town Council’ program. This program will empower sanitation guards to enforce environmental regulations strictly. They will penalize those who dispose of waste improperly.

He mentioned a proposal called ‘Operation Make Cape Coast the Cleanest City in Ghana.’ The Town Council will visit homes to check waste disposal practices and take action against offenders.

Regarding revenue generation, Mr. Arthur expressed concern about non-compliance with building permit regulations. He noted that many houses are built without permits and do not pay property tax. This lack of compliance means lost revenue for the assembly.

Mr. Arthur emphasized his commitment to inclusive governance. He plans to bring together stakeholders, institutional heads, media representatives, and assembly members. Their goal is to share ideas on restoring pride and development in Cape Coast.
