President John Dramani Mahama has ordered the promotion of all eligible deputy directors of education. This decision applies nationwide, even without available office space.
Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu announced this directive on Thursday, April 24. It addresses long-standing complaints from education professionals and teacher unions.
The Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) recently threatened to strike by April 30. They cited delays in promotions and stagnation affecting lower-ranked educators.
Haruna Iddrisu mentioned that many deputy directors struggle to advance due to lack of office space. He emphasized that infrastructure should not hinder career progression.
Mahama's directive aims to cut through bureaucratic obstacles. The president instructed the Ghana Education Service and the Ministry of Education to promote these deputy directors.
They will serve as directors of GES despite lacking office space. This announcement came during a campaign for distributing sanitary pads to improve menstrual hygiene among schoolgirls.
The event highlighted the government's focus on educational wellbeing and equity.
