A 36-year-old trader has been granted bail by the Enchi District Magistrate Court. Ruth Arthur, also known as Amina, is accused of burning her ex-lover's belongings. Her bail is set at GH¢30,000 with two sureties.
Ruth pleaded guilty to unlawful entry, causing damage, and stealing. During the court session, she explained her actions. After hearing her explanation, the court decided to grant her bail.
The prosecutor, General Sergeant Stephen Offei Asante, presented the case. The complainant is David Anni, also known as Nana Atopah. He works as an Okada rider in Amonie.
Ruth and David were in a relationship for two years. They faced difficulties after their two-month-old child passed away. Following this tragedy, Ruth's family opposed their relationship, leading to a divorce.
On March 3, 2025, around 7:10 AM, David was at a wedding when he received alarming news. His friend Akwasi called him about Ruth breaking into his room and setting his belongings on fire.
David rushed home and found that Ruth had forcibly entered his room. He immediately checked for his cash of GH¢22,000 but found it missing.
The prosecutor stated that Ruth damaged several items in the house. These included a 32-inch Hisense flat-screen TV and a Binatone standing fan. She also destroyed Sony speakers and a double-bed mattress.
In total, the damages amounted to GH₵27,019.00. The police later accompanied David to inspect the crime scene.
During their inspection, they found a partially burnt mattress and some personal items belonging to David. When questioned by police, Ruth admitted to committing the crime in her caution statement.
She was then charged and brought before the court for trial.
