Woman arrested for alleged acid attack on ex-boyfriend in Accra

The Greater Accra Regional Police Command has arrested Mavis Nkrumah. She is a 30-year-old woman accused of pouring acid on her ex-boyfriend, Gideon Frimpong. The incident occurred at Ablekuma Fan Milk, a suburb of Accra.

According to police, the attack happened on May 28, 2025. Mavis arrived unannounced at Gideon's home around 1:00 a.m. Gideon, a 29-year-old taxi driver, spoke briefly with her. She asked him for a ride home, and he agreed.

While driving, Gideon stopped due to rough road conditions. This was in Ofankor at 7 Days Stretch. Mavis then questioned him about their relationship. After confirming their breakup three times, she poured the suspected acid on him.

Bystanders helped Gideon and rushed him to the hospital. He received treatment for his injuries and has since been discharged.

Mavis fled the scene but was arrested on June 3 in a neighboring country. She is now in custody and assisting police with their investigation.

Juliana Obeng Supt., Head of Public Affairs, issued a statement. She cautioned the public to resolve issues peacefully and legally. Violence is criminal and will be prosecuted.

The police command remains committed to public safety. They urge everyone to report suspicious or harmful behavior to the nearest station.
