Wontumi's arrest: Justice isn’t only for allies - Joyce Bawah slams Bawumia

Senior Presidential Advisor Joyce Bawah Mogtari emphasized the need for consistent defense of constitutional rights.

Her comments were in response to former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. He called for fairness regarding the arrest of NPP Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, known as Chairman Wontumi.

On May 29, Joyce Bawah posted a statement on X. She acknowledged Dr. Bawumia’s concerns about Wontumi's arrest and detention.

She stated, “Like you, I believe firmly in the rule of law and the rights of every Ghanaian.”

However, she pointed out the irony in his sudden concern for due process. She noted that many Ghanaians have experienced state institutions acting without transparency or fairness.

While supporting Mr. Wontumi’s rights, Madam Bawah called for consistency in justice.

“Justice must not only be demanded when it affects our own,” she said.

“It must be upheld for all Ghanaians regardless of party affiliations.”

She urged this moment to be a turning point for upholding citizens' dignity and rights.
