Wontumi's bail varying application was instructed by his wife - Tampuli

Hassan Tampuli, the MP for Gushegu, shared new details about Wontumi's bail. He revealed that Wontumi's wife requested the recent bail variation application.

Wontumi, the Ashanti Regional NPP Chairman, remains in custody. His legal team has struggled to secure his release from the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO). Until Friday, they had only managed to provide one surety.

Mr. Appiah-Kubi confirmed that Wontumi met all bail conditions. However, a new legal application filed earlier prevented his release.

NPP's Director of Legal Affairs, Gary Nimako, filed a motion to review Wontumi’s bail conditions. This was part of ongoing efforts by his legal team.

On JoyNews' Newsfile, Dr. Tampuli explained that Wontumi’s wife directed Mr. Nimako to file for a variation of bail conditions. Initial attempts to meet these requirements were challenging.

Dr. Tampuli noted that after Wontumi left CID headquarters on Tuesday afternoon, he was picked up again. The 48-hour period would end Thursday afternoon.

The team aimed to meet all bail conditions before this deadline. On Friday, Gary Nimako was instructed by Wontumi’s wife and his aide to seek updates on their progress.

Gary contacted Mr. Appiah-Kubi for information on their situation. He suggested filing another motion for a variation of the bail conditions.

According to Gary, Mr. Appiah-Kubi was working on this until around 2:35 PM when it was finally filed. Wontumi’s wife became anxious as she wanted her husband home and expected action from lawyers.

Dr. Kojo Pumpuni also spoke on the show about possible internal disagreements within the NPP's legal team.
