Wontumi’s bail conditions by EOCO arbitrary, harsh – Lawyer

Enoch Afoakwa is part of the legal team for Bernard Antwi Boasiako. He is known as Chairman Wontumi, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NPP. Afoakwa criticized the bail conditions set by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO). He called them arbitrary, harsh, and excessive.

On Channel One Newsroom, Afoakwa expressed concerns about fairness. He stated, “It is arbitrary. It is harsh and it is excessive.” He feels these conditions breach legal fairness and due process.

Chairman Wontumi is under investigation for several financial crimes. These include fraud, causing financial loss to the state, and money laundering. The Deputy Attorney General, Justice Srem-Sai, confirmed a separate probe into an alleged international crime network linked to him.

On May 28, EOCO granted Wontumi a GHS50 million bail with sureties. However, he has not been able to meet these bail conditions. Despite efforts from his legal team, Wontumi remains in custody.

Afoakwa urged law enforcement agencies to respect due process. He called on authorities to ensure fair legal procedures without political bias.
