Wontumi Arrest: NDC should continue abusing power, NPP will be back - Titus Glover

Former Greater Accra Regional Minister, Titus Glover, has criticized the National Democratic Congress (NDC). He accused them of abusing power in the detention of NPP Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, known as Chairman Wontumi.

Mr. Glover spoke to the media at the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) on Friday. He called the arrest politically motivated and warned that it would not weaken the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

He stated, “This is purely persecution. A kite cannot stay in the air forever.” He added that if the NDC thinks they can intimidate Wontumi, they have lost their way.

Glover described Wontumi’s arrest as unnecessarily aggressive. He said, “The spirit of the elephant is strong and united. You can’t break it.”

He insisted that the NPP would remain undeterred by this situation. He sarcastically encouraged the government to continue their actions. “We will even clap for them, but Chairman Wontumi will definitely come out,” he said.

Regarding legal matters surrounding Wontumi’s arrest, he stated he was not interested in specific charges. “Nobody in the NPP will support anyone who has breached the law,” he noted.

He emphasized that if there are legal issues with Wontumi, they should take him to court. Glover explained that the Exim Bank case is civil in nature.

“If he has taken a loan from Exim Bank, file a suit in court,” he said. “You don’t hold him here aggressively.”

Mr. Glover expressed hope that Wontumi's bail conditions would soon be met. He mentioned ongoing discussions to meet these conditions.

“They can do whatever they want,” he said. “We hope our friends will support and meet his bail conditions.”

He concluded by stating that what is good for one must be good for all. “NPP will come to power again,” he asserted confidently.
