Bernard Antwi Boasiako, known as Chairman Wontumi, has been released. He is the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP). His release came from the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) after meeting bail conditions.
On June 2, Wontumi's legal team withdrew a motion. This motion sought to review his GH¢50 million bail condition. It was originally filed at the High Court in Accra on May 30, 2025. The hearing was scheduled for June 3 but was canceled a day earlier.
Wontumi was granted bail on May 28 with two sureties. His lawyers confirmed that they fulfilled the bail conditions by May 30. However, his release was delayed due to the pending motion for review. His lawyers stated this motion was filed without his consent.
After extensive legal efforts, Wontumi's lawyers secured his release from detention. Justin Kodua, NPP General Secretary, announced this at EOCO headquarters. He confirmed that Wontumi has gone home to relax and thanked MP Bryan Acheampong for his support.
Following his release, Wontumi is expected to cooperate with ongoing investigations. He spent nearly a week in detention before being released.
