Wontumi granted bail

Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, known as Chairman Wontumi, is the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party. He has been granted bail after reporting to the police for alleged illegal mining activities.

He faces several charges. These include mining without a license, polluting water bodies, and unauthorized entry into a forest reserve. His visit to the police was prompted by an invitation from the Director-General of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).

A press release confirmed that Mr. Antwi-Boasiako reported to CID Headquarters on May 26, 2025. He arrived at midday to assist with investigations. The statement noted he was accompanied by a team of lawyers led by former Attorney General Godfred Dame.

Mr. Antwi-Boasiako cooperated fully with the police during questioning. He provided his statement and was granted bail afterward. He is required to report back to the police on May 27, 2025, at 3:00 PM.
