Wontumi’s Continued Detention Violates His Rights – NPP’s George Kwarteng

George Kwarteng Adenta, a member of the NPP Communications Team, has expressed serious concerns. He is worried about the detention of Bernard Antwi Boasiako, known as Chairman Wontumi. Wontumi is the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NPP. He has been held by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) for over 48 hours.

Kwarteng shared his thoughts on Facebook. He stated that this prolonged custody violates Wontumi's fundamental human rights. “More than 48 hours and Chairman Wontumi is still in EOCO custody,” he wrote.

Kwarteng urged President John Dramani Mahama to pay attention to this issue. He warned that actions by state agencies could lead to serious legal and political consequences. “President Mahama must be concerned about the implications of his administration’s actions,” he cautioned.

Wontumi is under investigation for alleged financial crimes, including fraud and money laundering. His legal team and party supporters claim the government is using EOCO for political vendettas. The NPP insists that investigations should be fair, timely, and unbiased while supporting the rule of law.
