Wontumi’s Lawyer slams security operation as “immature” and wasteful

The lawyer for the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, criticized a recent security operation at his client’s home. He called the operation “immature” and unnecessary.

Kwame Adom-Appiah, who is also the NPP’s Ashanti Regional Secretary, questioned the actions of the security team. This team included National Security operatives and police officers. They raided Chairman Wontumi’s residence in Kumasi on Friday, May 23, 2025.

Adom-Appiah spoke to the media at the scene. He condemned the scale and method of the operation as excessive. He said it was a misuse of state resources.

He remarked, “When you are going to arrest somebody, using about 20 cars is not useful.” He added that this approach is undesirable and costly for the state.

He suggested that a simple invitation could have sufficed. Even if Wontumi did not respond, there are better ways to make an arrest.

The raid has increased tensions in the area. Residents and onlookers appear visibly unsettled by the heavy security presence. It remains unclear if Chairman Wontumi is inside or what prompted this operation.

Hafiz Tijani from Channel One TV reported that heavily armed officers continue to guard the compound. Meanwhile, NPP supporters have gathered outside Wontumi's residence as some officers withdraw from duty.
