Wontumi’s special aide seeks plea deal with the OSP in galamsey corruption case

Andy Owusu is an aide to Bernard Antwi Boasiako, known as Chairman. He is seeking a plea deal with the Office of the Special Prosecutor. This is in relation to his galamsey corruption case.

Owusu was taken to court with Charles Bissue on 15 counts of corruption. They are accused of abusing their public office for personal gain. This involves illegal mining operations and fast-tracking mining permits unlawfully.

The Office of the Special Prosecutor filed charges against them for corruption. The case involves a scandal linked to GHC35,000 in bribes. The charges were filed at the High Court in Accra on April 28.

Between January and February 2019, Bissue accepted bribes totaling GHC35,000. He received these directly and through Owusu to renew a mining license without proper documentation.

Bissue faces nine counts, including using public office for profit. He allegedly received GHC15,000 on January 22 and two payments of GHC10,000 later.

He is also charged with corruption by a public officer for accepting bribes to influence duties. Andy Owusu faces six counts related to aiding Bissue’s corruption.

The High Court has adjourned the case until June 4, 2025. This allows time for discussions about finalizing the plea agreement.
