Wontumi seeks review of bail conditions at High Court

Bernard Antwi Boasiako, known as Chairman Wontumi, is the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NPP. He has filed a motion in the High Court in Accra. This motion seeks a review of his bail conditions set by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO).

The application was filed on May 30, 2025. It challenges the GHS 50 million bail amount. His legal team argues that this amount is excessive and aims to prevent his release. The law firm Marfo & Associates submitted the motion on his behalf.

The application requests that the court reconsider the bail terms. It includes grounds outlined in an accompanying affidavit. The court will hear this motion on June 3, 2025, at 9:00 am. Wontumi's legal team plans to argue for reduced or modified bail conditions.

Meanwhile, party leadership tried to visit Chairman Wontumi at the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) headquarters in Accra. He was transferred there after being detained by EOCO during an ongoing investigation.

On May 30, former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin were granted access to NIB premises. However, they confirmed they could not meet with Wontumi after leaving the facility.

Dr. Bawumia expressed disappointment over their inability to see him.
