Wontumi shockingly falls ill during EOCO probe, rushed to hospital

Bernard Antwi Boasiako, known as Chairman Wontumi, was hospitalized on May 27. He is the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

His lawyer, Andy Appiah Kubi, a former MP, said Wontumi fell ill during questioning. This occurred at the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) in Accra. Kubi did not reveal the hospital's name or location.

Kubi told the media, “I know where he is but I will not disclose it.” He added that Wontumi was taken to the hospital for medical treatment. The interrogation has not finished yet. They plan to return on Wednesday if his condition improves.

Wontumi was arrested by EOCO after visiting the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) headquarters. He was intercepted by EOCO operatives upon leaving CID. EOCO has not released an official statement regarding his arrest.

The specifics of the investigation are still unclear. Wontumi’s legal team has not commented further on this matter.

Additionally, a Third Deputy National Chairman of NPP warned against TV3 journalists interviewing anyone about Wontumi’s case at EOCO. He threatened to destroy any microphone used for such interviews.
