Dr. Sofo Rashid Tanko Computer is the CEO of GIFEC. He has questioned the sincerity of NPP executives. They supported Ashanti Regional Chairman Bernard Antwi Boasiako, known as Chairman Wontumi. This support came after Wontumi's encounter with EOCO.
Dr. Rashid believes many were motivated by personal ambition. He said they used the moment to position themselves for upcoming elections. “They went there to market themselves, not because they cared about Wontumi,” he stated.
On Channel One TV’s Breakfast Daily, he commented on Wontumi's financial situation. “GHS50 million should not be a problem for him,” he said. He noted that Wontumi had previously boasted about his resources.
Wontumi was granted bail by EOCO on May 28 after interrogation sessions began on May 27. His lawyer confirmed the bail was set at GHS50 million with two sureties required. The case is believed to involve Wontumi’s dealings with EXIM Bank.
The arrest led to quick reactions from NPP members. High-profile party members joined supporters outside EOCO to demand his release. However, Dr. Rashid argued that this public support may hide deeper rivalries within the party.
