Bernard Antwi Boasiako, known as Chairman Wontumi, is the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP). He is expected to report to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) today, May 26, 2025.
This follows a failed arrest attempt by the National Investigations Bureau (NIB) and the Ghana Police Service. On Friday, May 23, around 9:00 a.m., about 20 armed officers raided his residence in five vehicles.
After this incident, Chairman Wontumi spoke on Asempa FM. He said, “If your accounts get frozen how do you expect to survive? The sanctions President Mahama imposed on me are harsher than those on Russia. I don’t have access to any account.”
He also mentioned that he will go to the police headquarters because they sent him a letter. However, he has not received any communication from the NIB.
Kwame Adom Appiah is Wontumi's lawyer. He stated that they are ready to cooperate with the police. Speaking to Citi News, he emphasized that Wontumi will not hide or run away.
“He has investments in Ghana and will not leave,” Appiah added. “If you want him any time or day, you can find him.”
He assured that they have not committed any crime and are not afraid of meeting with authorities.
